Welcome to my ENGL 1010 general course work page! I am taking this class as a general education requirement for the Associates of Pre Engineering Degree. I really enjoy this class and the teacher. The Professor takes you at your own pace, and grades you on how well you challenge yourself. I love the assignments he has us do in this class. I like them because they relate to me as a writer and reader, which makes them a lot easier and more enjoyable to do. After barely failing the AP Literature test in high school, it's time to redeem myself by working hard in this class. I expect myself to become a very strong reader, open-minded in the sense of deciphering black and white arguments. Below is some of my work, enjoy!
This was the first assignment given to us (besides homework of course) in my ENGL 1010 class. I really enjoyed working on this assignment because I got to write about memories I had. The assignment was to create a memoir involving technology in some way, to make an argument and point about technology somehow. I strayed a little from the technology requirement on this short essay on purpose. I really wanted to hit home with my theme of forgiveness, using technology as a weapon to society if used incorrectly. I revised this sucker quite a bit, a lot more than I was originally expecting. The second file is how I progressed through all my drafts and revisions. Kind of a timeline in a way of what I slowly learned while doing the assignment.
This assignment was to analyze the rhetoric of another writer's essay. I chose to do my essay on Emily Nussbaum and her theory of a generational divide. This assignment was really hard for me because I was learning how to develop my paragraphs better, while trying to clearly work off of my thesis. I had the assignment finished rather early, but I ended up re-writing the entire piece because my professor Justin Jory likes to push his students. I really appreciate that about him because it got me out of my comfort zone in writing and overall improved my writing skills.
The above file was my assignment on ethos. Ethos is the identity one creates for any given purpose, situation, or intended result. In this assignment, we got to pick any online material and examine the use of ethos. I chose to do one of my favorite YouTubers, Onision. This was by far my most favorite assignment. It's nice to do some homework you find enjoyable at the same time.
